We’re Developing a New Grant Writing Course

We are excited to announce we are developing a grant writing course that, later in 2025, will be offered both online and in person.

The course will provide participants with the skills and knowledge needed to independently identify, apply for, and secure grant funding, reflecting the unique values and priorities of their communities.

Key Objectives:

1. Skill Development:

  • Identifying Opportunities: Participants will learn to analyze funding opportunities and align them with community goals. By understanding how to match funders’ priorities with their own needs, participants can increase their chances of success.

  • Crafting Winning Applications: The course provides hands-on techniques for writing clear, compelling, and culturally relevant grant applications. Participants will learn to emphasize measurable results, community impact, and long-term benefits in their proposals.

2. Knowledge Building:

  • Demystifying the Process: The grant application process can seem overwhelming. This course breaks it down into manageable steps, making it accessible to everyone.

  • Understanding Compliance and Reporting: Beyond the application itself, participants will gain insight into the post-award responsibilities, including reporting requirements, compliance measures, and how to maintain positive relationships with funders.

3. Community Strengthening:

  • Fostering Collaboration: Participants will be encouraged to share knowledge, tips, and resources both within their own communities and with others. This collaborative approach ensures that no community is working in isolation.

  • Building a Network of Grant Writers: As participants complete the course, they will join a growing network of trained grant writers. This network will serve as a resource for support, mentorship, and continued learning.

4. Cultural Alignment:

  • Honouring Indigenous Values: Successful grant applications reflect the values, stories, and priorities of the communities they serve. This course emphasizes the importance of cultural integrity in every step of the process.

  • Incorporating Storytelling: Indigenous communities have rich storytelling traditions. The course teaches participants how to incorporate these narratives into grant applications to make them more compelling and authentic.

5. Confidence and Independence:

  • Developing a Growth Mindset: The course fosters an environment where participants feel encouraged to learn, make mistakes, and continuously improve their skills.

  • Reducing Dependence on External Assistance: With their new knowledge and skills, participants can take control of their grant-writing efforts, ensuring that their communities have the resources they need to thrive without relying heavily on outside help.

By the end of this course, Indigenous community leaders and non-profit professionals will be empowered to navigate the complex world of grant funding. They will leave with the tools, knowledge, and confidence to resource their initiatives and achieve long-term sustainability. This isn’t just about securing funding; it’s about fostering independence, strengthening communities, and honouring cultural values in the process.
